Shane Maloney is a Senior Research Fellow at DIAS.
He obtained his PhD in Solar Physics at Trinity College Dublin before working as a software developer and then engineer at a Dublin-based SME.
He returned to academia to work on Solar Orbiters X-ray tetescope, STIX, as part of the instrument team.
His work focuses on solar activity, including solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), what triggers them, and how they drive space weather.
