OpenAI-compatible endpoints often need one extra request field: OpenRouter's `provider` object pins or sorts upstream providers (and keeps a provider's prompt cache warm), vLLM takes chat_template_kwargs, others take top_k. OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY holds a JSON object that is merged into every chat request. model, messages, max_tokens, stream and reasoning_effort set by agentmemory always win, and a value that is not a JSON object fails at construction. Explanation
The title "feat(openai): send extra request fields from OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY" names the main change. The PR adds an optional OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY setting that merges a JSON object into OpenAI chat requests, and the title states this directly. The title is short, specific, and follows conventional-commit style. The title does not mention the precedence rule for agentmemory-set fields or the docs and test-count updates, which is expected for a title.

🔴 Extra fields disappear in managed installs
When OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY comes from the shell, OpenAIProvider receives no value in CLI-managed installations. The Compose worker environment allowlist drops it, so provider routing and other configured fields never reach requests.
Learn more
The CLI starts the LLM worker through Worker Compose. Its environment allowlist admits only named process variables into the generated worker configuration. OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY is absent, so a value exported in the shell never reaches this constructor. Values in a selected .env file can still pass through the separate filtered env file.
Example: Export OPENAI_API_KEY, OPENAI_BASE_URL and OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY='{"provider":{"order":["deepinfra"]}}', then start the managed CLI. The worker sees the key and URL but sends requests without provider.
Recommended fix: Add OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY to AGENTMEMORY_WORKER_ENV_ALLOWLIST and test that the generated Compose environment carries the value from workerEnvironment.

🟡 Unset reasoning effort accepts extra override
When OPENAI_REASONING_EFFORT is unset, OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY can set reasoning_effort despite its reserved status. OpenAIProvider only overwrites that field when the dedicated setting exists, changing model behavior unexpectedly.
Learn more
The request normally omits reasoning_effort when the dedicated setting is unset. Spreading extra fields adds the property before the existing conditional assignment, which leaves that property untouched unless the dedicated setting is truthy. The documented precedence promises that agentmemory owns the field even when it does not explicitly send it.
Example: With OPENAI_REASONING_EFFORT unset and OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY='{"reasoning_effort":"high"}', a chat request includes reasoning_effort: "high" instead of omitting it.
Recommended fix: Remove reasoning_effort from the parsed extras before merging, then add it only when OPENAI_REASONING_EFFORT is configured. Test both the configured and unset cases.

| Reasoning-class models (`o1`-style with `<think>` blocks) can return empty `content` with a `reasoning` field your local server may not surface. If extractions come back blank, switch to a non-reasoning model first. The `OPENAI_REASONING_EFFORT=none` env can also disable thinking on Ollama Cloud thinking models that mirror the OpenAI reasoning schema. | ||

| To send an endpoint-specific request field, set `OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY` to a JSON object; it is merged into every chat request, and the `model`, `messages`, `max_tokens`, `stream` and `reasoning_effort` that agentmemory sets always win. For example, `OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY={"provider":{"order":["deepinfra"],"allow_fallbacks":false}}` pins one OpenRouter provider so its prompt cache stays warm. |

🔍 OpenRouter configuration applies only through OpenAI route
The native OpenRouterProvider bypasses OPENAI_EXTRA_BODY. Provider pinning requires configuring OpenRouter through OPENAI_API_KEY and OPENAI_BASE_URL.

Summary
Closes #1491.
OpenAIProvidersends a fixed body, so OpenAI-compatible endpoints that need one more field cannot get it. The motivating case is OpenRouter throughOPENAI_BASE_URL: theproviderobject (order,allow_fallbacks,only,sort) is the only way to pin an upstream provider, which keeps that provider's prompt cache warm instead of letting:floormove between providers per call.
