blog, answers: a paid plan's spend limit is one you set in the Console, none until you do - #8663
Four pages said every paid Prisma plan has a hard spend limit "on by default". A paid workspace starts with no spend limit: the Spending Limit card under Workspace Settings > Billing is empty until you enter an amount and confirm it, which is what the Console billing docs describe.
Changes
/blog/choosing-hosting-and-postgres-after-your-first-100-users, "Spend limits": every paid plan includes one you set in the Console, and none applies until you do: enter an amount, click Set Limit and type the workspace name to confirm; it caps usage charges in a billing cycle, not the plan fee; when it is reached, queries to the workspace's databases stop. Update history line added; updatedAt 2026-10-30.
/blog/prisma-compute-generally-available, "Usage is now billed": the spend limit "you set in the Console, with none until you set one" (was "on by default, which you can change in the Console"). "Paid plans bill instead of pausing": "a spend limit, once you set one, caps the usage charges in a billing cycle", linked to the billing docs. updatedAt 2026-10-30; Update history section added. The rates sentence now reads "the same as", with the same meaning.
/blog/prisma-vs-netlify, "Pick by app type" row "Usage-based bill you need to cap": the second column reads "Prisma Compute + Prisma Postgres with a spend limit set", matching the Railway entry, and the reason column says the limit is one you set in the Console, with none until you set one. "Why teams leave Netlify": "every paid Prisma plan includes a hard spend limit you set in the Console". The row and "Why teams leave Netlify" also say the limit covers usage charges, not the plan fee. The title, meta title, first paragraph and disclosure are not edited. Update history line added; updatedAt 2026-10-30.
/answers/compute/typescript-hosting-spending-controls: the Prisma row of the controls table and step 2 say the limit is one you set, none applies until you do, and step 2 lists Set Limit and the workspace-name confirmation. Both now point to the billing docs, which say what happens at 75% (email) and 100% (database queries stop), instead of the pricing FAQ. The launch-post sentence on Compute charges was removed, and the check date now names the billing docs. updatedAt 2026-10-30.
The /pricing page, the home page and the /lp pages carry the same "on by default" wording; they are fixed in #8664, which waits for review of the pricing copy.

https://www.prisma.io/docs/console/more/billing#cap-usage-charges-with-a-spending-limit: "A spending limit is an optional cap on usage charges. It is available on paid plans, including Vercel Marketplace workspaces." and "To set one, open Workspace Settings > Billing and find the Spending Limit card. Enter the amount in dollars, click Set Limit, and type the workspace name in the dialog to confirm."
Same page: "When usage reaches 75% of the limit, every member of the workspace gets an email [...] At 100%, Prisma blocks further usage: queries to the workspace's databases stop" and "The limit covers usage charges only, so the plan fee does not count toward it."
Console behavior: a workspace's spend limit is stored only when someone sets it on the Spending Limit card; upgrading to a paid plan does not set one, and the upgrade summary says "You can also now set monthly spending limits."

git grep -i "on by default" over apps/blog/content, apps/site/content and apps/docs/content: no remaining Prisma spend-limit match (the remaining matches are other vendors' settings and unrelated features).

Updated hosting and Prisma Compute articles to clarify that paid plans have no usage-spend limit until one is set in the Console.
Explained that a configured limit caps usage charges for the billing cycle, not the plan fee, and that database queries stop when the limit is reached.
Added details about the 75% email notification, workspace-level setup steps, and the distinction between paid-plan limits and Free-plan allowance pauses. per-service shutdown timing is not specified.
…e, none until you do
Four pages said every paid plan's spend limit is on by default. A paid
workspace starts with no limit: the Console's Spending Limit card is empty
until an amount is entered and confirmed, as the billing docs say ("an
optional cap on usage charges").
- first-100-users "Spend limits": none is set until you enter an amount;
it caps usage charges, not the plan fee; database queries stop at the cap.
- compute GA "What changed" and "You pay for": same correction, links the
billing docs.
- netlify alternatives: the "Usage-based bill you need to cap" row and
"Why teams leave Netlify" say the limit is one you set.
- answers/typescript-hosting-spending-controls: table row and step 2 point
to the billing docs (75% email, queries stop at 100%).
updatedAt set to 2026-10-29; update-history lines added where the post has
a history.

…; the limit excludes the plan fee
Entering an amount does not activate a spend limit: the reader also clicks Set Limit and types the
workspace name to confirm. The first-100-users post and the spending controls guide now list those
steps, and the Compute GA post and both update-history lines stop saying an entered amount sets the
limit. The Netlify comparison now says the limit covers usage charges, not the plan fee, in the
"Usage-based bill you need to cap" row and in "Why teams leave Netlify". Pages this change touches
read 2026-10-30, and the Compute GA post gains an update history.

…ute charges
The billing docs name what stops at a spend limit: queries to the workspace's databases. They do
not say Compute charges stop, and the guide's own later section tells readers to confirm which
meters stop at the cap. The sentence pointing to the Compute launch post is removed, so the table
row and that section now state what the docs say.
The guide's check date now names the billing docs, because this change links them. This section of
the site has no update history, so that sentence is the page's only dated check.
