Description

Documents the developer-facing effects of mautic/mautic#17776, which splits the Configuration screen into one section per registered configuration.

Changes to docs/plugins/config.rst:

  • Notes that each set of settings a Plugin registers with addForm() in ConfigEvents::CONFIG_ON_GENERATE appears as its own section at /s/config/edit/{formAlias}, and how to generate a link to it with the mautic_config_edit route and its activeTabId parameter.
  • Explains that CONFIG_PRE_SAVE and CONFIG_POST_SAVE listeners now only receive the settings of the section that the User saved, so listeners must check that their formAlias key exists before reading or changing values.
  • Rewrites the CONFIG_ON_GENERATE and CONFIG_PRE_SAVE event descriptions and the passive sentence about CONFIG_PRE_SAVE.
  • Fixes the misplaced inline-code markup and the "plugin" capitalization in the parameters table row.

mautic/mautic#17776 is merged into 7.x.

Validation

Vale (repo .vale.ini) reports no errors, warnings, or suggestions on the changed lines. Remaining findings in docs/plugins/config.rst are on unchanged lines.

Review feedback

  • @adiati98 asked to address the Vale warnings. Rewrote the changed lines so the Mautic.FeatureList findings for "form" and "page" (which referred to Symfony forms and Configuration sections, not Mautic Forms or Landing Pages) and the Google.Colons warning on the event list no longer appear. Also fixed the Vale.Terms error for "plugin" in the adjacent parameters table row.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that plugin settings appear on separate Configuration pages, and only forms with at least one parameter are listed.
    • Explained how to link directly to a form using its alias.
    • Specified that CONFIG_PRE_SAVE runs just before values are written to local.php; each page saves independently, and save events contain only that form’s settings.
    • Added guidance for checking that a form’s settings key exists before accessing it; unrelated settings in local.php remain unchanged.

Walkthrough

The plugin configuration documentation now describes how forms appear as Configuration pages, how to link to a form by alias, and what settings CONFIG_PRE_SAVE listeners receive.

Changes: Plugin configuration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration forms and pre-save settings
docs/plugins/config.rst
The CONFIG_ON_GENERATE description now says Plugins use the event to add settings. The documentation explains form pages and direct links, and states that CONFIG_PRE_SAVE listeners receive settings for the saved form alias while other local.php settings remain unchanged.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/plugins/config.rst: The CONFIG_ON_GENERATE description now says the Plugin uses the event to add its settings to the configuration, replacing the claim that it injects a tab and configuration options.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/plugins/config.rst: Adds that registered forms appear as separate Configuration pages at /s/config/edit/{formAlias}, only forms with at least one parameter are listed, and links can target a form through mautic_config_edit with activeTabId set to its formAlias.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/plugins/config.rst: The CONFIG_PRE_SAVE description now specifies dispatch immediately before writing to local.php. It adds that pages save independently, save events contain only settings for the saved formAlias, listeners must check that their key exists before reading or modifying it, and other settings in local.php remain unchanged.

Explanation

The title names the docs change and the feature it documents: per-page configuration saving for Plugin config subscribers. The raw summary confirms the change is in docs/plugins/config.rst and covers per-form Configuration pages at /s/config/edit/{formAlias} and the CONFIG_PRE_SAVE behavior of saving one page at a time. The title is specific and matches the main change. It is 80 characters and 10 words, which is acceptable.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template's main content. It has a Description section that explains the docs changes to config.rst and the related core PR #17776. It has a Linked issue section that refers to mautic/mautic#17776 with 'Related to', not the 'Closes #NNN' keyword. It has a Screenshots section that says 'None', which fits a docs-only change. The description also includes Vale validation notes and review feedback. Two points need attention: the linked issue is related but not closed by this PR, and the objectives and commit message disagree on the route name (mautic_config_action in the description vs. mautic_config_edit in the commit message). The author should confirm which route name is correct, since the description and the docs text must match.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Correct the unconditional local.php preservation claim.

When an unrelated top-level setting has the value '', saving a valid configuration page can remove that entry from local.php. For example, an empty local mailer_dsn entry is omitted, so Mautic then uses the Email bundle default smtp://localhost:1025. The setting is not unchanged.

Suggested fix
-Mautic leaves all other settings in ``local.php`` unchanged.
+Mautic merges the saved settings with the existing configuration. When it rewrites ``local.php``, it omits top-level settings whose value is an empty string.

I fixed the Vale warnings on the lines this PR changes and pushed the fix in commit e252a30.

  • Reworded the four lines that reviewdog flagged for "form" and "page". There, they meant a Symfony form and a Configuration section, so they now say "settings" and "section".
  • Rewrote the two event list items so a lowercase word follows the colon. That clears the Google.Colons warnings.
  • Changed "plugin" to "Plugin" in the parameters table row next to the change.

Vale now reports nothing on the changed lines. The remaining findings in docs/plugins/config.rst are on lines this PR doesn't touch, so I left them as is to keep the PR small. I ran Vale locally with the repo's .vale.ini; CI hasn't finished on the new commit yet.
