What changed upstream

github-samples/copilot-workshops#196 (aeebea5), "clarify first-steps review access and app workflows". It touches 9 English First steps lessons and their 5 locale translations (54 files in all):

  • Copilot Free doesn't include Copilot code review. Added IMPORTANT callouts in the app and VS Code prerequisites and review lessons, with manual-review fallbacks.
  • /init is now /init create simple rules for the project (app, CLI and VS Code lessons).
  • App lesson 3 now explains that the local folder has no branch or Changes info until it's published.
  • App lesson 5 now says approval prompts depend on your approval settings.

What was updated locally

Under website/src/content/docs/learning-hub/copilot-workshops/first-steps/ and the same path under each of es-es, ja-jp, ko-kr, pt-br and zh-cn:

  • copilot-app/{0-prerequisites,3-inspect-and-test,4-project-instructions,5-publish,8-review-loop}.md
  • copilot-cli/2-project-instructions.md
  • vscode/{0-prerequisites,2-project-instructions,8-review-and-merge}.md

Each page keeps the upstream wording, with the lastUpdated field bumped and links rewritten to site-absolute, locale-prefixed routes. No images or navigation changed.

Deferred

Upstream commits after #196 were not processed, and the cached SHA is aeebea5:

The next run will pick them up. Real-world CLI, VS Code and cloud harnesses still need comparison.

Validation

npm run website:build was not run. The sandbox couldn't reach upstream over git or raw HTTPS, so the content was applied from the GitHub API commit patches.

Thanks for the sync. This duplicates #4691, which is still open and syncs the same upstream change (github-samples/copilot-workshops#196) across the same 54 files.

This run is also less complete than #4691. In the five localized copilot-app/3-inspect-and-test.md pages, it applies only the /init sentence and a [publish-lesson] link definition. Upstream changed the session-details section in every locale (+13/−9), so these translations still tell learners to check branch and Changes in a local-folder session (for example, es-es lines 14, 25–26 and 32). The new [publish-lesson] reference is never used. #4691 includes the full locale update, so this PR isn't needed alongside it. #5971 also covers #196, along with the later upstream changes.
