- Around line 297-299: Update the sensitive-key check in pack_redacted_map to
search the complete MessagePack key using its explicit length, including bytes
after embedded NULs, instead of relying on strcasestr’s NUL-terminated search.
Ensure allocation or search failure does not classify the key as non-sensitive
and allow its value to be logged unredacted.
- Line 515: Update the key_val_eq error formatting that prints rule->expect to
redact the expected value when rule_key_is_sensitive(rule) is true, while
preserving the existing expected-value output for non-sensitive rules and the
masking of actual_value.

Search the whole msgpack key for sensitive names so an embedded NUL cannot hide the sensitive part from the check, and mask the expected value of a key_val_eq rule on a sensitive key as well as the actual one. Signed-off-by: Cestercian <yashafaid@gmail.com>

Good catches, both fixed. The key check now walks the full msgpack key by length so an embedded NUL can't hide the sensitive part, and key_val_eq masks the expected value too when the key is sensitive. Added runtime tests for both, they fail without the fix. |
Fixes #12556
Summary
On expect-filter rule mismatch, the plugin was logging the full record as JSON, which can leak secrets (passwords, tokens, etc.).
Mismatch logs now walk the msgpack map and replace values whose key names match sensitive substrings (case-insensitive: password, passwd, secret, token, credential, apikey, api_key, authorization, private, sensitive) with
[REDACTED]. Forkey_val_eqmismatches, the inline actual value in the error line is also redacted when the rule key matches.Testing
