[Bug]: gamedig npm calls hang when the npm registry does not answer #5127
check_gamedig.sh runs npm install when gamedig is missing, and npm update > /dev/null 2>&1 on every monitor, start, stop, restart, details, update, validate and postdetails when it is present. When the npm registry accepts connections but does not answer, both calls wait. The npm update output is hidden, so a cron monitor just stalls with nothing on screen or in the log.
On a clean ubuntu-26.04 container with gamedig installed and the registry pointed at a listener that accepts connections and never answers (90 s limit):
Command
Result
npm install
timed out
npm install --no-audit
done in 0 s
npm update
timed out
npm update --no-audit
timed out
npm install only waits on its audit request. npm update also waits on the version lookups it needs, so --no-audit alone does not help it. npm's defaults allow 5 minutes per request with 2 retries.
